My Story

A marriage between contemporary science and ancient wisdom

For the past 11 years, I’ve loved my work. I’m grateful to every client who continues to teach me how diverse and beautiful the human experience can be, and how I can best support them.

I feel it’s my purpose as a psychologist to serve each person on an individual level, where mutual learning and understanding can really happen.

As a Chinese-Australian I’ve always felt connected with my family’s history and felt it was important to bring the best of the East and West into my life.

I have a deep respect for the achievements of psychology and neuroscience. I’ve balanced this with my passion for Eastern philosophies and practices, leading me to focus my study on a range of healing modalities. These are primarily yoga, meditation and mindfulness.

“The wisdom of the East has a strictly practical aim which is not mere knowledge about the universe; it aims at a transformation of the individual and of their feelings for life through experience rather than belief.”

- Alan Watts

In my academic writing and applied practice, I often integrate empirically supported therapies from East and West. As part of my PhD research, I combined Eastern Hatha Yoga (mindful movement practice) with Western psychological theory and neuroscience. This led me to the development of a program I call ‘MiYoga’, a mindfulness-based yoga intervention for children with disabilities, specifically Cerebral Palsy.

I tested MiYoga as a therapy to improve children’s cognitive, physical, emotional and behavioural outcomes. The results showed that children and adolescents who completed MiYoga had significantly better attention, were more consistent in their performance, and were less impulsive than children who were yet to complete MiYoga. The MiYoga program has been translated into a yoga program within a mobile application (Evolve21) for Android and IOS devices - https://www.evolve21.org/workouts-stella

While I loved my research, I missed working directly with clients in private sessions. In late 2021 I sought out the most warm and peaceful retail space I could find and began the practice I have today, in our city’s vibrant West End.

My ongoing professional development and connection to integrated therapies continues today. I’m grateful to have the opportunity to apply my research, culture and unique knowledge of mind-body psychotherapy into my work with you.

I’m interested in your story. Rather than applying the same formula to everyone, my approach is person-centred and tailored to your specific needs. Together, we can discover your own unique potential for making positive changes in your life and help you move forward on your chosen path.
